I think the first quote I used in my piece sums it up, "This may come as a shock to Americans, who don't like to think of their country as an empire. But..." It just brought it all together, it's not like I haven't thought this over an over again due to the actions of this country over the past decades but it resounds when someone else states it so simply. I think if you go into every decision we are making in regard to other countries with this opening premise it helps define some of the insanity that passes for foreign policy. I think putting the oil issue in perspective was also insightful and understanding the difference between capital and political interests is food for thought. I have the advantage as it is my week to present so I feel really strong in reference to most of Harvey's arguments.
On a personal level it is once again to not take things a face value. Given the limited media exposure I choose to access I sometimes fall into a kind of washed over malaise, reading Harvey and others helps to keep that from happening.
